Originally the BN1 gearbox uses a “scroll” type front seal. This arrangement leaks very badly particularly if the car is parked on a downhill slope. The leaking oil runs down the gearbox input shaft and contaminates the clutch which eventually causes clutch shudder and clutch slip.
We have developed a machining technique to fit a modern lip type seal which completely eliminates this leakage problem
